     Alan E. Johnsrud, of Arlington Virginia, (95) passed away on May 2, 2026 at the home he shared with his wife of fifty-four years.

     Alan was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, December 4,1930 to parents Edwin Johnsrud and Amy Louise Johnsrud (Simmet). He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School and went on to the University of Wisconsin, where he got his BS and PhD degrees in Physics.

     Alan married Marilyn Carbon in 1952 and together they had two children. They later divorced.,

     Alan's professional career began in the aeronautics industry in southern California. In 1967, he went to Viet Nam as a civilian military contractor. In 1969 he married Nguyen Yen Ngoc (Solange). After leaving Viet Nam, he worked in Military Operations research  at the Pentagon until retirement.

     Alan had a lifelong passion for mountains and wilderness.He loved to learn, and took up SCUBA diving while living in California. Professionally, and personally, he was fascinated by the elegance of calculus and all things mathematical. His expertise generated creative and original solutions in diverse fields. Alan was also enchanted by the beauty of Viet Nam, even in wartime.

     Above all, he bravely espoused the conviction that religion is to be avoided and rational thinking take presidence.

     Alan is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronald Lewis (formerly Johnsrud). He is survived by his wife Solange N. Johnsrud, son Erik Johnsrud (Suzanne), daughter Kristen Brown (Jeffrey) and six grandchildren,Dag Johnsrud, Torfinn Johnsrud, Alex Brown, Katrina Brown, Marla
Brown, and Ross Brown.

     There will be no service as per Alan's wishes.
