On Monday, December 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family, Alex Alvendia passed away due to stage 4 metastatic undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma. Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, Alex grew up in Moundsville and graduated from John Marshall High School. He spent his career working in the trades, including as a coal miner, an electrician, and a truck driver. His adult years, however, were punctuated by long stretches of dealing with complex cancers and their aftermath. Yet, his indomitable spirit shone through it all as well as his intrinsic optimism for a better future.

Although his life was short, it was filled with cherished experiences and meaningful roles. Alex was a son, a brother, a cousin, an uncle, and a father. He loved his children with a deep and abiding love. His favorite moments were spent with them, whether fishing, swimming, playing basketball and baseball, going out to dinner, jumping in autumn leaves, or just hanging out together. Alex was an avid fisherman, and the love of his sport began as a child during fishing excursions with his father. He later would go out to favorite fishing spots with his brothers and friends, and would go on to share his love of fishing with his own kids.

Alex loved to travel (particularly road trips), the beach, being in nature, trying new foods, and learning new things. He soaked in every new experience – from swimming at beautiful beaches during family visits to the Philippines to watching NFL players warm up from the sidelines. He was naturally athletic and excelled at baseball in his youth, playing ball for nearly a decade. He also enjoyed poker, golf and disk golf, and took part in the first disk golf league at Grand View Park.

Alex was incredibly resilient and faced each cancer diagnosis with resolve and determination. He had the ability to find humor and hope despite having to endure grueling rounds of chemotherapy or difficult recoveries from countless surgeries. Those who knew Alex will remember him for his infectious smile, quick wit, subtle humor, quiet stoicism, and practical intelligence. At the end, he lived his life as fully and as bravely as he possibly could in the face of a painful and aggressive terminal cancer.

Alex is survived by countless family and friends, through whom his memory will live on. He is the son of Rayma Lynn Alvendia (David Nelson) and Eduardo (Rachel) Evaristo Alvendia, and the father of Kaylee Alvendia, 17 years old, and Alessandro (“Alex”) Alvendia, Jr., 16 years old. He is the brother of Maximilian Alvendia, Eduardo (“Eddie”) Alvendia, Jr., Adrianne Wyatt (Kip Comack), and Sean (Jennifer) Wyatt, and he is the cousin of Ryan Williams, whom Alex saw as another brother. He is the uncle of Ellery Comack-Wyatt (Adrianne and Kip) and Tyler and Avery Wyatt (Sean and Jennifer). He is also survived by his long-time girlfriend Amanda Rogers, as well as his former wife and mother of his children, Ashley Lovett. Alex was preceded in death by his tita (aunt), Grace Williams, and his niece, Paige Alvendia.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully received to support his children’s post-secondary college or trade education. You can donate through GoFundMe or for additional ways to donate you can contact his sister at adrianne.wyatt@gmail.com.
