Alfiero Raniero Giamberardino, a man whose life was a testament to craftsmanship, warmth, and enduring devotion, passed away on April 8, 2026. Born on May 3, 1936, in the picturesque city of L'Aquila, Italy, Alfiero carried with him the rich heritage of his birthplace throughout a life marked by both professional achievement and profound personal connections.
Alfiero’s journey began humbly, yet resolutely, through District Council 9 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) in New York City. It was here, apprenticing among the skilled tradesmen, that he honed his talents and cultivated a mastery that would shape not only his own destiny but the very fabric of the city's storied landmarks. His expert brush adorned iconic structures including Macy’s Herald Square, the Twin Towers, and the world-renowned FAO Schwarz. His skill and leadership elevated him from journeyman painter to foreman, entrusted with some of the city’s most high-profile assignments.
In time, Alfiero took the courageous step of founding Almar Painting and Decorating Co., a company that would stand as a beacon of quality, trust, and integrity for decades. Through this endeavor, he extended his craft to a spectrum of projects—residential, commercial, and industrial—imbuing each with the same pride and excellence that defined his early years. His legacy is thus etched not only in the surfaces he painted but in the reputation he carefully built: one of unwavering dedication, demanding standards, and heartfelt service.
Beyond his lifelong labor, Alfiero was a larger-than-life presence—someone whose spirit filled every space with an undeniable energy. His commanding presence was softened by a kindness and humor that immediately put those around him at ease. A laugh that began as a gentle giggle and blossomed into an infectious joy is remembered fondly by all who knew him. Behind his warm smile lay a depth of love and patience, a reservoir of gentleness that endured even as his vitality waned in later years. He was, in the truest sense, a good man—immensely loved, and deeply missed.
At home, Alfiero’s passions illuminated a life rich with culture and personal interests. An avid lover of opera, he amassed an impressive collection of recordings and videos, each a testament to his refined taste and dedication to the art form. His cherished Marantz stereo system stood as the crown jewel of his living space, alongside a carefully selected high-end television setup, both always ready to deliver the soundtrack and stories that enriched his days. A collector at heart, Alfiero delighted in discovering unique treasures—an American picker in spirit. The garden he tended with care, where tomatoes, basil, eggplants, and other fruits of the earth flourished, mirrored the nurturing nature he extended to family and friends alike.
Above all his accomplishments, Alfiero was proudest of his family. Embracing the role of devoted husband to Anna Maria Romita, he found his greatest joy in the company of his son, Marco, daughter-in-law, Andrea, and his beloved grandchildren, Lorenzo and Alessandra. His welcoming nature was evident in every handshake, every hug, every tale told with warmth and pride. Whether reminiscing about his days painting the New York’s skyline or quietly sharing moments in the homes of his children, Alfiero’s heart beat strongest in the presence of those he cherished.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Maria Romita; his son, Marco; daughter-in-law, Andrea; grandchildren, Lorenzo and Alessandra; his sisters Maria, Luciana, and Antonietta; his cousin Ronald; and many beloved nieces and nephews in America and in Italy, each carrying forward the light he so graciously imparted.
Alfiero was preceded in death by his dear parents, Antonia and Americo, whose memories surely live on in the man he became.
The tapestry of Alfiero Raniero Giamberardino’s life is one woven with artistry, love, and integrity—a legacy that will continue to inspire and resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know him. In reflecting on a life well lived, we honor not only a master craftsman but a cherished soul whose spirit will endure in every corner touched by his hand and every heart warmed by his presence.
