Alfred Arthur Macchi, 83, of Framingham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026 at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Born in 1943 in Framingham, he was the son of Joseph Macchi and Julia Macchi (née Kadra). Fred grew up ice skating and teaching his siblings how to swim on Waushakum Lake and, wearing number 7, helped bring his Framingham High School hockey team to the nationals. A graduate of the College of the Holy Cross Naval ROTC Unit 1965, his time on the Crusaders hockey team saw league championship action. After a tour of duty on a Navy comms ship “from Istanbul to Vũng Tàu,” and passing the bar at Suffolk Law, he established private practice with John Zucchi and lived in Ashland for over 40 years, raising a family with Deborah Salisbury Shaw of West Hartford, Connecticut. As a founding member of Fred’s U, he traveled far and wide to drink beer and skate hard with other senior hockey teams in tournament play. He adored gardening, golf, skiing, canoeing, the beaches of Cape Cod, sharing a love of nature and art with his children, being facetious, figuring out what’s for dinner, having Lebanese food for dinner, and being with his family. He is survived by two daughters, Alexandra “Lexie” Macchi of Baltimore Maryland and Catherine “Kit” Macchi of Sedgwick Maine, along with sister Helen Sullivan of Hopkinton Massachusetts, brother Robert Macchi of Hopkinton Massachusetts and David Macchi of Savannah Georgia.

A Celebration of Life reception will take place at La Cantina Italiana Restaurant, 911 Waverly Street Framingham, MA, 01702, on July 25, 2026, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
