Amy Leete MacDonald, age 69, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on June 4, 1957, in Wakefield, Rhode Island, Amy was the daughter of William W. Leete and Doris Knight Leete. She grew up in Wakefield, attending Wakefield Elementary School before graduating from Wakefield High School in 1975. She then attended the University of Utah, where she earned a degree in mathematics while participating in the Air Force ROTC program.

Upon graduating in 1979, Amy was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. She served with distinction for four years, including an assignment at the Pentagon Communications Center, before leaving active duty in 1983.

Amy's love of mathematics and teaching led her to Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland, where she taught high school mathematics from 1983 to 1988. After devoting many years to raising her family, she returned to the classroom at Vienna Presbyterian Preschool, where she worked part-time from 2013 to 2019. Throughout her life, she also shared her gift for mathematics as a private tutor, helping countless high school students gain confidence and succeed in their studies.

On November 21, 1987, Amy married the love of her life, Thomas Steven MacDonald. Together they built a home filled with faith, learning, and love, raising four sons who were the pride and joy of her life.

Amy is survived by her husband of nearly 39 years, Thomas Steven MacDonald; her four sons: William Andrew ("Andy") MacDonald of Ashburn, Virginia; Robert Thomas ("Bobby") MacDonald of Fairfax, Virginia; James Patrick ("Jimmy") MacDonald of Vienna, Virginia; and Peter Bailey MacDonald of Charlottesville, Virginia; her daughters-in-law, Natasha MacDonald, Niconia MacDonald, and Sara Clayton; her grandchildren, Abigail MacDonald and Philip MacDonald; her step-grandchildren, Madisen and Jaxsen; her brother-in-law, Randy Schodt; and her nieces, Becky Schodt Guthrie and Amy Schodt.

Over the years, Amy and Tom made their home in Reston, Virginia; Plano, Texas; Oakton, Virginia; and finally Vienna, Virginia, where they lived for nearly three decades.

Beyond her professional life, Amy embraced many interests. From 1986 to 1997 she was a licensed private pilot, a reflection of her adventurous spirit, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to take on new challenges.

Amy will be remembered for her quiet strength, sharp mind, patient heart, and unwavering devotion to her family. Whether serving her country, teaching in the classroom, tutoring a struggling student, or caring for those she loved, she approached every responsibility with kindness, integrity, and humility. Her influence will continue to be felt in the lives of her family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A memorial service will be held at Vienna Presbyterian Church on August 15 at 11am.
