Ana Lucrecia Palma González
June 13, 1948 – April 28, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ana Lucrecia Palma González, a beloved mother, aunt, sister, great-aunt, cousin and friend.
Lucrecia (known affectionately by her many friends and family members as Lu, Lucky, or Lucre), was born in Guatemala City on June 13, 1948, to her parents Julieta and José Joaquin and into a large and extended family.
The youngest of five children – Patricia, Maria del Carmen, Jose Joaquín, and Julieta – Lucky was an active and smart child. She lived in Guatemala until she was 18 years old when moved to Washington, D.C. for a job at the InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB) in 1967. She spent the rest of her life in D.C., while traveling frequently to Guatemala.
Lucky earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees in Economics at The American University over 12 long years, even as she worked full time at the IDB. She retained loving friendships with IDB colleagues throughout her life.
Lucky leaves behind her former partner Valerie Ploumpis and their two children, Ana Vanessa and Richard Xavier, as well as her two sisters Carmen and Julieta, and her adored cousins, nephews and nieces in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Paraguay, Switzerland, and Guatemala.
