Andrea Hummel Corella, 59, passed away on October 1, 2025, in Burke, Virginia. She was born on January 5, 1966, in Gainesville, Florida. Though she was born in the United States, her upbringing was filled with German traditions and values. Her parents exemplified compassion, generosity and kindness, which motivated her to a life defined by an unwavering commitment to peace and understanding.

Andrea earned her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Florida and went on to receive a Master of Arts in Applied Anthropology from American University. She also held a Theory Certification in TSM Psychodrama, reflecting her dedication to innovative approaches in human relations and conflict resolution.

A visionary in her field, Andrea founded a consulting firm specializing in cultural diversity. Through this work, she provided trainings, conducted cultural needs assessments, and offered human relations consulting to organizations and communities. Her early focus on preventing conflict through cultural understanding evolved into a powerful mission of resolving conflict through facilitated improvisations. This evolution led to the development of her groundbreaking I4P (Improv for Peace) method—a transformative approach designed to help individuals and communities increase empathy, reduce miscommunication, and reimagine outcomes to historical conflicts.

Andrea’s professional journey was marked by courage and global engagement. She remained steadfast in the face of crisis—present during the 1990 Kuwaiti oil crisis in the Middle East, the 1995 refugee persecutions in Guatemala, and the 2015 refugee crisis in Greece. Her presence during these pivotal moments underscored her deep commitment to humanitarian work and cross-cultural healing.

In addition to her consulting work, Andrea shared her knowledge as an adjunct faculty member at both the University of Florida and Manatee Community College. Her passion for teaching extended beyond academia; she mentored countless individuals throughout her life with generosity and insight.

Andrea also served as president of the Pamphalon Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provided significant financial support to other nonprofits with a focus on the arts and services for the homeless community. Her leadership further demonstrated her dedication to uplifting others through meaningful action.

Outside of her professional accomplishments, Andrea embraced life with creativity and joy. She was an avid hiker and kayaker who found solace in nature’s beauty. A master seamstress with an eye for detail and artistry, she found joy in sewing and embellishing her clothes with personal touches that showed off her style and creativity. She also expressed herself through blogging- sharing reflections that influenced many.

Though she had many accomplishments, the one she was most proud of was her daughter Sophie Hummel. As a wife, she was the consummate life partner and love of his life. She is remembered by husband Gilbert Corella, and her sisters Sirka and Barbara Hummel. She was predeceased by her parents, Rolf Erich Hummel and Waltraud E. Hummel.

Andrea wore many titles throughout her life: mother, wife, teacher, mentor, entrepreneur, peacemaker, and friend. Each role reflected a facet of her extraordinary spirit. She brought immeasurable love, wisdom, and kindness to all she encountered - leaving behind a legacy that will continue to ripple outward through those she touched.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and serve as a guiding light for generations to come. A Memorial Service will be held on November 15, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church 6509 Sydenstricker Rd.
