Betty Fraser Aaronson, 80, of Springfield, Virginia passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 9, 2025. Born in Jersey City, NJ, Betty was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth McGovern. She was the third of four children and only daughter. She loved her close-knit family, her Irish heritage and summers spent in Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ. Betty attended St. Aloysius Academy in Jersey City and later she moved to Washington, DC to attend Dunbarton College of the Holy Cross. She earned a Master's in Counseling from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
Betty married and raised 4 children in Springfield, VA. Her life is remembered by her unwavering love of family. Mom was a constant presence in our lives and always there when we needed her the most. From gourmet cook to field trip mom to soccer coach, she made it a point to be involved any way she could. She loved gathering together for the holidays and starting traditions with friends and family. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren, enjoying the summers at the beach and travelling with her friends. Later in life Betty used her Counseling degree by working as a patient counselor, offering support and care to many before and after surgery. Betty touched the lives of everyone she met with her kindness, sense of humor, and compassionate heart. We will miss her more than words can express.
She is survived by her children Doug (Michelle), Susan, Timothy, and Brian (Trish) Fraser, her grandchildren, Jackson, Nicholas, Lilly, and Caroline, her brothers Mark (Maryann) and Robert (Margaret) McGovern and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Betty is now reunited with her second husband Russ, her parents, and her brother Joe. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Betty was strong in her faith, and we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace in the Lord’s embrace.
