Biao Tian

October 23, 1962 — October 11, 2024

McLean, Virginia

With a heavy heart we announce that Biao Tian, 61, passed away on October 11th, 2024, from complications with pancreatic cancer metastasized to the liver.

Administrator.

Dr. Tian was born on October 23rd, 1962 as the last of four brothers to DaoJun Tian and ShuZheng Liu in Nanjing. There, he graduated from Nanjing No.1 Middle School at the top of his class. He continued to excel in his studies: making top scores in his college admission exams, entering the University of Science and Technology of China; studying abroad to Germany to complete a Bachelor’s in Biology from the University of Hamburg, a Master’s in animal physiology and a PhD in neurophysiology from University of Tübingen. He eventually moved to America, serving first as a Research Assistant Professor at Georgetown University, then as a Scientific Review Officer and subsequently a Health Science Administrator at the National Institutes of Health. Equal to his dedication to his job was his dedication to his family, always making a point to eat dinner together with them by the end of the day, nigh everyday. His wife, Hanqiu Zhang, passed away on February 20th, 2022 from breast cancer. He is survived by his two children Alexandra Minna Tian and Isabella Flora Tian.

Adventurous but serious, erudite, a lover of arts, scrutinizing, a foodie and an athlete. His spare time were filled with travels, enjoying classical music lectures, reading all kinds of literature, cooking even better some restaurant chefs. In the summer he would swim and raise a bountiful garden, in the winter he would tend to a fireplace and sometimes enjoy a well roasted sweet potato.

His sudden passing has left us all heartbroken and lost for a life with so much left to live but a life well-lived.

Services will be held at 3411 Arlington Blvd, Arlington 22201 on October 18th, Friday, 7 days after his passing.
