Bruce was born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 17, 1946. He received a bachelor’s degree in physics from City College of New York and a master’s degree in physics from Yeshiva University. From 1968 until his retirement in 2015, he worked for the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) in the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health. His duties encompassed developing performance and safety testing procedures for medical devices, primarily those used in both diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound applications. Bruce also wrote national and international device performance standards, which are still in use today. For 30 years of his career, he served as an Officer in the USPHS Commissioned Corps. Bruce’s many personal interests included skiing, tennis, Zydeco dancing, dining out with friends, discussing politics, and reading mystery and crime novels. He loved cats and was a strong supporter of animal welfare organizations. Bruce is survived by his brother, sister-in-law, two nephews, and many dear friends.
