Byung Chun Kim

June 5, 1937 - November 6, 2025

Byung Chun (Bonifacio) Kim of Woodbridge VA, passed away on Thursday, November 6th, 2025 at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia at the age of 88. 

He was born on June 5th, 1937 in Kyungki-Do Province in South Korea, a member of the Kyungju clan of Kims. His parents were Ko Suk Kim and Soo Wol Kang. His beloved grandfather was Jong Sun Kim, to whom he attributed many happy memories and his education. 

He graduated from Seoul National University on March 28, 1960, with a BS degree in Pharmacy. He subsequently emigrated to the US in 1972 with his immediate family and eventually earned a BS Pharmacy degree at the Medical College of Virginia on May 12, 1979. He continued to work as a pharmacist during his life as well as starting his own private business.

Mr. Kim was a dedicated church member and 7th Congregational President of the Kim Taegon Catholic Church in Richmond VA for many years, which he helped found and fund. After moving to Northern Virginia he was  subsequently a devoted member of St. Paul Chung Korean Catholic Church in Fairfax Virginia. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Yon Hee Kim, son Michael Kihyun Kim, daughter Jeanie Hyejin Kim and granddaughters Audrey Suah Eng and Lauren Suhee Eng. He will be remembered for his generosity, his cheerful spirit and his life of service to his church, the congregation and the poor. Friends and family remember his love of his family, fishing, music, gardening and golfing. Most of all, he will be remembered for his faith to his Lord God.

There will be a Funeral Mass at 11 am at St Paul Chung Korean Catholic Church in Fairfax Virginia on Wednesday, November 12th. (The viewing at the church has been cancelled due to church policy). This will be followed by a procession and burial at 1 pm at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax Virginia.
