Carolyn Jane Montgomery, affectionately known as "Cookie," was a vibrant soul whose presence lit up every room she entered. Born on October 8, 1953, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Carolyn embarked on a remarkable journey through life, embracing the beauty of friendship and the joy of connection with everyone she met.
A beloved daughter to Evelyn and Charles Hodges, Carolyn grew up surrounded by love and laughter. In her earlier years, she developed a reputation as a social butterfly, always eager to engage with others, build friendships, and share her infectious spirit with the world. Carolyn cherished her bonds, and her welcoming nature allowed her to make friends wherever she went, enriching the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
Throughout her life, Carolyn's passions blossomed. A true lover of plants, she created a beautiful sanctuary that reflected her favorite color, yellow, filling her space with warmth and brightness. Her penchant for collecting small trinkets showcased her eye for the charming details that others often overlooked. A lover of dressing up, she found joy in celebrating life and presenting herself for every occasion, embodying the radiant spirit she exuded.
Carolyn's journey ultimately led her to Sentara Hospital in Woodbridge, Virginia, where she passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, secure in the faith that awaited her. The love she held for the Lord was palpable, providing her with comfort and strength throughout her life.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and connection through her children, Vanessa Montgomery of Jacksonville, Florida, and Adam Montgomery, along with his wife, Rosemarie DiBella, of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Carolyn took immense pride in her eight grandchildren, each one a shining star: Kionna Woodson and her husband John of Clarksville, Tennessee; Ke'von Gilkerson of Martinsburg, West Virginia; Brandon Montgomery, Keshaun Gilkerson, Haylie Montgomery, Breonika Walls, Kirsten Montgomery, and Te'Ariana Smith, all from Jacksonville, Florida, and Fredericksburg, Virginia. Her legacy extends further with three great-grandchildren: Xolani, John, and Kyran Gilkerson-Woodson, who will carry her spirit forward.
She is also remembered by her nieces, Cyndi Laird and her husband Kenny and their son Brandon from Macclenny, Florida, as well as Patti Robinette of Missouri, and her nephew Jimmy Robinette of Missouri, along with his children.
Carolyn joins her parents, her sister Ruth Robinette, and her brother Bruce Hodges in eternal rest, where they will be reunited once more. As we celebrate the remarkable life of Carolyn Jane Montgomery, we hold close the memories she created and the indelible mark she left on all of our hearts. Her laughter, her kindness, and her zest for life will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
