It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Carolyn Marie Stear, who departed this life peacefully at her home in the Sunrise Senior Living community at Silas Burke House on February 20, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on May 1, 1948, in Warren, Ohio, Carolyn lived a life dedicated to service, education, and her family, leaving behind a legacy that touched many.
A proud graduate of Champion High School, Carolyn went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University. Her educational journey reflected her passion for teaching and her deep belief in the transformative power of knowledge.
Carolyn enjoyed a distinguished career as a teacher and administrative professional, devoting her professional life to educating children in Indianapolis, Indiana and Warren, Ohio. Her work in the offices of Champion High School and the Trumbull County Board of Education was characterized by her commitment to enriching the lives of her colleagues while brightening the days of countless students, parents, and members of the community. Carolyn proudly participated in the leadership of the Champion Alumni Association, celebrating and recognizing the accomplishments of standout graduates from her beloved alma mater. This commitment showcased her deep admiration for her roots and unwavering support for the next generation.
Those who knew Carolyn remember her as a caring and open person who made friends rapidly, forming connections through the sharing of interests and stories. She was devoted to her family, and prioritized supporting her parents and brothers, and doted on her children, daughter Melissa (Douglas) Gorsline of McLean, Virginia, and son Jason (Lisa) Stear of Burke, Virginia. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, Madeleine, Jackson, Katherine, and Benjamin, and delighted in celebrating their achievements and milestones.
Carolyn had a profound love for Christmas and cherished all the traditions associated with the holiday season. She had an extensive collection of Santa Claus figurines, ornaments, and decorations, which she would display throughout the year, rotating them frequently to appreciate her full collection. This joyful spirit extended to her baking, as she frequently shared cookies and cakes with family and friends, spreading sweetness and warmth wherever she could.
Among her hobbies and interests, Carolyn was a dedicated quilter, pouring countless hours into creating cherished quilts and keepsakes for her family members. She also enjoyed gardening alongside her parents and brother Dennis, cultivating flowers that beautified the world around her while feeding her loved ones. A member of a regular monthly card club with a group of girlfriends for fifty years, Carolyn nurtured these friendships and provided steadfast support to her peers through the bond of this close-knit community. With her husband, Garry, she was a longtime member of the Pymatuning Yacht Club in Jamestown, PA where she enjoyed the social side of the club and relaxing pace of life by the water.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marguerite Bean; her husband, Garry Lee Stear; and her brothers, Gary and Dennis Bean. Their memories will forever remain a part of her legacy.
As we remember Carolyn Marie Stear, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and an unrelenting dedication to family and community. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
