Obituary of Charles E. Taylor III
Mr. Charles (Charlie/Grampy) Edwin Taylor III, age 86, of Herndon, Virginia, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025, at his home of 40 years. He was born August 28, 1938, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Charles Edwin Taylor Jr. and Martha Faye (Wayne) Taylor.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 60 years, and his son John. He is survived by his son Dan Taylor and wife Tammy. He will be forever cherished and remembered by his five grandchildren--Zackery (33), Joshua (33), Jonathan (31), Joseph (29), Jacob (27)--as well as his four great-grandchildren, Colton (7), Sadie (4), Flora (4), and Mavis (1).
Charlie began as an Eagle Scout and lived a full and varied life. His career began in the Navy just after high school and continued through positions at 7-Eleven, the U.S. Postal Service, and as an outdoor sportswriter for several publications. He was best known, however, for his time as a fishing guide. Charlie had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge of all things related to fishing, and his passion became his legacy.
He founded two fishing clubs--Lots-A-Luck Bassmasters and New Horizon Bass Anglers--and was instrumental in creating the New Horizon Bass Anglers Youth Foundation, which continues to host two annual kid’s fishing derbies at Lake Fairfax. Charlie loved teaching others, sharing his stories (most of which were true), and was even featured on two fishing podcasts
