Cherrill Alfou Anson, 87, passed away on November 10, 2025 in Washington, DC. Cherrill was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend. Cherrill is preceded in death by her parents, Jack Alfou and Beulah Lipshaw Alfou, and her brother, Sheldon Phillip Alfou.

Cherrill was born Cherill Miriam Alfou on June 21, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan. In her youth, the Alfou family moved to Tucson, Arizona. There, Cherrill attended Tucson High School and later enrolled in Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. In 1958, Cherrill married William H. Anson. They divorced in 1965.

After graduating from Northwestern University in 1960, Cherrill moved to Baltimore, Maryland and eventually settled in Washington, DC. She had a long and distinguished career as a freelance writer and journalist.

Cherrill was a long-time member of Temple Sinai in Washington, DC. She is remembered fondly by the family she built and her expansive community in the DC area. She is dearly missed.

Services will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Garden of Remembrance Memorial Center & Chapel, 14321 Comus Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
