Christen Charlene Lee, known affectionately for most of her life as “Bun,” passed away peacefully at home in McLean, Virginia on May 21, 2026, at the age of 44.

Born in Taipei, Taiwan on November 20, 1981, Bun grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area alongside her twin sister, Lorene. She carried California with her always: a lifelong devotion to the San Francisco Giants, a love of good food (especially noodles with serious spice), and an enduring appreciation for beauty, craftsmanship, and delight in everyday things. Bun collected makeup samples with enthusiasm and generosity, happily sharing tiny treasures from subscription boxes with friends and family alike. She had an eye for well-made pottery, beautiful objects, and the small comforts that make a home and life feel welcoming.

A devoted Giants fan to the end, Bun did not merely watch baseball. She kept score at games, followed the team faithfully from the East Coast, and carried decades of memories from more than one hundred games attended with her sister growing up.

After moving to the Washington, DC area in 2009, Christen built a meaningful career as an HR professional with a gift for connecting with people. She cared deeply about relationships and community, and nowhere was that more evident than at Christ Church of Arlington, where she served faithfully in many capacities over the years. Christen's friendships were wide, loyal, and enduring. She was the kind of person who remembered details, checked in on others, gathered people together around meals and conversation, and made space for others to feel known.

The nickname “Bun,” given to her by an affectionate classmate in seventh grade, stayed with her for the rest of her life. To many in California she remained simply Bun, while to her beloved niece and nephew, Rory and Bennett, she was forever “Auntie Bun.”

Christen is survived by her mother, June Lee; her twin sister, Lorene Eberhardt; her brother-in-law, Nathan Eberhardt; and her niece and nephew, Rory and Bennett, all of McLean, Virginia. She also leaves behind a large and loving community of friends, church family, and fellow Giants fans who will miss her deeply.

Those who knew Christen knew her fierce independence, quick humor, generosity, and warmth. Even in difficult seasons, she remained deeply herself: thoughtful, observant, stylish, funny, faithful, and attentive to the people she loved.

A burial service was held on May 28, 2026. A memorial service celebrating Bun’s life will be held on July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Restoration Anglican Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church of Arlington or Assist Pregnancy Center.

The family is deeply grateful for the many friends, caregivers, church members, and loved ones who surrounded Bun with extraordinary love and care throughout her life and especially in her final months.
