Christopher Bennett Gatling, 70, of 9602 Hagel Circle, Lorton, VA died on November 11, 2024 of natural causes while in his sleep. He was the son of Edward Reddin and Frances Bennett Gatling. He was the older brother of the late David Jonathan. Chris was survived by his sister, Valerie (Robin) Stegemiller, her husband, Michael D., and three nieces, Megan R, Ashley D. and April F. He had two great nephews with another nephew on the way.
Chris was a retired ASE Master Technician at American Automobile Association (AAA). He was responsible for the preventive maintenance and the upkeep of AAA Maryland division fleet of trucks.
A big part of his life was spent making his cars or boat achieve their top performance (go their fastest).
It all started with his first car. He put a 427 rat motor in his red Pontiac Tempest. Many years later and a few more fast cars, Chris took his passion for speed to the water when buying a speedboat, the infamous Scarab.
Chris loved spending time on the water. He was always ready to spend the day or night navigating the river. He always enjoyed the camaraderie with friends, fishing, or in his younger days, waterskiing.
Christopher loved music. He taught himself to play the piano and guitar (sort of). Chris always bought the latest hits. He had hundreds of vinyl records and CDs along with a surround sound system for his (and his neighbors) listening pleasure.
Later in his life, Chris went back to school and earned an associate degree. He became interested and enjoyed working with, building and fixing computers.
Chris also enjoyed spending time and honing in his skills at the shooting range.
Throughout his life, Chris acquired many nicknames that really stuck ie:
Cabbage- Back in the day of playing video games for $.25, he was one of two top scorers with his initials, CBG (Christopher Bennett Gatling) listed for all to see, hence the name C a B b a G e.
Flapper: He love to talk, tell stories and always give his opinion on things (especially so after having a beer or two).
Big Bro: I was lucky enough to have him as the best big brother a little sister could ever have.
Chris will live on in our memories and in our hearts.
It was his wish not to have a memorial service.
Chris will be laid to rest, at a later date, alongside his father, brother and uncles at the Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
