Christopher Lee Stokke, 53, of Leesburg, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, 28 March surrounded by his loving family and friends. He will be laid to rest at a later date with full military honors.

Chris was known for his dry sense of humor, his steadfast convictions, and the fierce loyalty he showed to those he loved. His spirit was as untamed as his hair and beard, which he displayed proudly, whipping in the wind on his frequent motorcycle rides. He was also known for nights of boisterous laughter, gathered with friends around a roaring fire. When the night got late and only the embers remained, he would share stories and impart wisdom upon those who stayed up with him.

He retired from the Army after 22 years of honorable service, and continued to serve as a government contractor until his passing. Chris was a lifelong advocate for veterans’ services, and acted as a mentor and (unofficial) counselor to many younger veterans fighting similar demons he faced when he got home.

Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Stokke; his children Jake Stokke (Jacqueline Crabtree) and Kayley Stokke; his parents, Robert and Shelley Stokke; his sister, Tanya (Billy) Hughes and her children; his cousin Jennifer (Ryan) Harris and their children, including Chris’s god-daughter Gracie Harris.

He joins his grandparents, Ken and Iris Nuzum and Theresia Heimerdinger; aunt, Colleen Glass; cousin, Sarah Glass; and dear friend, Denise Henrickson in waiting to be reunited with the rest of his family in the next life.

There will be a celebration of life at Honor Brewing Loudoun in Sterling on Tuesday, 31 March from 1800-2000. Chris would be displeased if you wore formal attire, so please dress as you would if you were attending one of those late night fires.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Mighty Oaks Foundation or another veteran-focused charity in Chris’s memory.
