Dean William Smith Jr., a beloved son, brother, and friend, left this world at the age of 56 on October 12, 2024, in the city that cradled his life, Washington, D.C.
Born and nurtured amidst the vibrant streets of D.C., Dean was a proud graduate of Anacostia High School, Class of 1988. His unwavering love for his family defined his journey, as he tirelessly stood by them, offering endless support and kindness. Dean’s deep commitment to his mother, Verna Minor, exemplified his character, as he lovingly cared for her until her passing in October 2021.
A spirited sports enthusiast and an avid gamer, Dean reveled in countless cherished moments spent alongside his dear childhood friend, James Brown. With a heart full of loyalty and a spirit brimming with humor, he was the kind of companion who turned ordinary days into extraordinary memories, weaving a tapestry of joy and laughter with every interaction.
Dean leaves behind a family that will forever cherish his memory: his siblings Faheem, Frank, Gregory, and Carolyn, along with his nephews – James Jr., Frank Jr., Christopher, and his nieces – Chudney, Wendy, Sessily, and Donnay. He is also remembered fondly by his aunts and numerous cousins, all of whom carry forward his legacy of care and companionship.
A memorial service to honor Dean's life and celebrate the joy he brought into the hearts of many will be held on November 16th at the Black Egyptian DC venue, 1918 MLK Jr Ave SE, Washington, DC 20020 from 11am - 2pm. As we gather to remember him, we cherish the lessons of loyalty, love, and laughter he imparted, ensuring that his spirit will remain with us always.
