Deborah Anne May, affectionately known as "B," left this world on February 2, 2025, in Centreville, VA, at the age of 67. Born in San Mateo, CA, on January 26, 1958, she lived a life rich in kindness, warmth, and love that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
A proud graduate of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA, Deborah dedicated much of her life to serving others. Her career as a retail associate in clothing and furniture stores showcased her natural ability to connect with people, always making them feel at ease with her kind words and welcoming demeanor.
Deborah was a woman of many passions. She proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy, stationed at the Naval Security Group Activity in Rota, Spain. After her military service, she poured her heart into her family, crafting wonderful memories that will live on in their hearts forever. One of her most cherished traditions was baking; every Christmas, she delighted her loved ones with her famous Apple Bread, a dish that echoed her care and thoughtfulness.
Her love extended beyond the kitchen; Deborah found joy in creating beautiful crocheted items, from hats and gloves to blankets for new mothers. Each stitch was a testament to her generous spirit, as she crafted thoughtful gifts with the same love she shared throughout her life.
Deborah's legacy is perhaps best captured through her relationships with her family. She was a devoted wife to Kevin and a loving mother to Joshua. Her bond with her daughter-in-law, Joela, further enriched her life, forging connections that blossomed like the creations she made. As a grandmother, Deborah felt immeasurable pride for Jocelyn and Jessica. She treasured watching them grow and pursue their dreams, always cheering them on and inspiring them to strive for greatness.
Deborah also had a special relationship with her sister, Rebecca Kitiona, and her brothers, John and David Lipscomb. The love between siblings is a powerful bond, one that remained strong even as life progressed. Her sisters-in-law, Marian and Beverly, were embraced as part of her extended family, sharing countless moments of joy and laughter.
Beyond her immediate family, Deborah's warmth radiated to everyone around her, including many friends and acquaintances who were lucky enough to call her their own. Known for her ability to make others feel comfortable, she lit up any room she entered. Her tenderness was further reflected in the unique name given to her by her oldest granddaughter, who affectionately referred to her as "B." This nickname became a beloved title not just among her granddaughters, but also fondly adopted by nieces, nephews, and friends alike.
Though she has departed from this world, Deborah leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support. She was predeceased by her mother, Cynthia Lipscomb, and her mother-in-law, Mary May. In celebrating her life, let us honor her memory through the countless lessons she imparted and the love she freely gave. Deborah Anne May was a strong-willed, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and her spirit will forever remain a cherished part of all our lives.
A private memorial service will be held for B's family and friends at a future date.
