Debra Ann Shirk Wilkenloh, affectionately known as Debbie, passed away on May 20, 2026, in Frederick, Maryland. Born on December 17, 1956, at Iruma Airbase, Honshu, Japan, she soon moved to Palmyra, PA and eventually grew up in Baltimore, MD. She attended Johnnycake Elementary School, Chadwick Elementary School, Johnnycake Junior High School and graduated from Woodlawn Senior High School in 1974.

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania, which laid the foundation for a career distinguished by dedication and commitment. Debra devoted 33 years to GEA Engineering, where she met her husband Andrew F Wilkenloh.

Debra’s personality was illuminated by a wonderful laugh and an innate wisdom that endeared her to friends and family alike. She cherished simple joys, with some of her fondest childhood memories being the times spent watching Shirley Temple movies with her little brother. Her heart brimmed with affection for animals, and she was well known as an ardent animal lover who took pride in rescuing and caring for stray cats and dogs. Alongside her compassion for animals, she nurtured interests in cooking and reading, pursuits that enriched her life and those she shared them with.

Debra is remembered with great respect and admiration by her loving family who survive her. She leaves behind her brother, Frederick Brian Shirk, her nephew Benjamin Lamar Shirk, and cousins Anne-Marie Light Mettus, Elaine Light Price, and Patti Light Savastio, who all hold her memory dear.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andrew F Wilkenloh, her mother, Hiroko Araiya Shirk, her father, Frederick E Shirk, her Uncle, Lamar L Light, and her Aunt, Janice J Light whose memories remain an enduring part of her story.

Debra Shirk Wilkenloh’s legacy is one of kindness, strength, and heartfelt devotion. Her spirit continues to resonate in the lives of her family and friends, who remember her laughter, wisdom, and unwavering love.
