Donna Marie Kucia, 63, passed away unexpectedly in Arlington, Virginia. Born in Jefferson City, Missouri, she was the eldest of five siblings. Her early years took her to Galveston, Texas, before the family settled in Alexandria, Virginia, where she graduated from St. Mary’s School and Alexandria City High School (T.C. Williams).
Donna began her college journey at Virginia Tech and completed a Bachelor’s and two Master's degrees at George Mason University. Donna’s career was as remarkable as it was multifaceted, including pivotal roles with the U.S. Air Force, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the U.S. Department of Justice. Her work ethic and dedication earned her many accolades, though her extraordinary modesty often kept her from highlighting her impressive contributions.
In retirement, Donna found joy in quilting blankets, community projects, gardening, and home improvement endeavors, including the ambitious removal of her chimney. Her vibrant personality shone at parties and gatherings, where her charisma and charm made her the heart of every event.
Donna was preceded in death by her mother Marguerite ("Peggy") and sister Rosemarie (husband Les, and children Joseph, Christopher, and Michael). She is survived by her father Richard, her siblings Robert, Christine (husband Josh, and children Sara and Jonah), and John (wife Bethany), as well as a close circle of family and friends who cherished her warmth, humor, and indomitable spirit.
A memorial service will be held to honor Donna’s life, during which her family and friends will remember her as a trailblazer, a raconteur, and a force of nature who lived life on her own terms.
