Listen to Obituary

Dorothy Jean Ambrose (nickname Dotty) was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, on December 24, 1935, to Robert and Clara Huntsman. She enjoyed an idyllic childhood, growing up alongside her three sisters, Liz, Janice, and Judy, and spending time with cousins who lived nearby.

Dotty earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music from East Tennessee State University. After graduation, she moved to Arlington, Virginia, where she began working at the Pentagon. While there, she met Thomas Ambrose, a Naval officer who was also stationed at the Pentagon.

They married November 24, 1962 and soon after moved to London, where Thomas was stationed for two years. During that time, they cherished the opportunity to travel throughout Europe whenever they could.

After returning to the United States, they lived in New Jersey before eventually settling in Northern Virginia.

Dotty loved being a stay-at-home mother and devoted herself to raising her family. In 1980, she returned to work at the USDA, where she worked for many years before retiring in 2010.

Family meant everything to Dotty. She was a kind, loving, and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her son, Scott Ambrose; her daughters, Kelli Kachur (John Kachur) and Lori Pedemonti (Curtis Griffith); her grandchildren, Rochelle Linkow (Zach Linkow), Andrew Kachur, and Ryan Kachur; and her great-grandchildren, Anastasiya, Abby, Aiden, Alec, and Alora Linkow.

Dotty will be reunited with her husband, Thomas Ambrose, at Arlington National Cemetery, service details are pending, and will be announced at a later date.

Dotty will always be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and the deep love she had for her family.
