It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss, that we must share news of the passing of Dorothy Krebs Sarro. Dorothy passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, surrounded by her sisters and beloved caregivers. She is survived by her sisters, Marie Krebs O'Neil (Jon), Theresa "Tess" Krebs, Charlotte Krebs (Quentin Holtz), and her nieces and nephew, Flannery O'Neil (Andrew Colbert), Thaedra O'Neil, Tristan Krebs, Jonah O'Neil (Brooke), great niece & nephew, Lucy & Graham O'Neil, her former spouse, Steve Sarro, and her best friend, Paul Koshetar. She is predeceased by her parents, Caroline Wagner Krebs and Thomas Gregory Krebs, her brother Thomas Gregory Krebs, Jr. and her beloved pup, Perla.

Born in Louisville, Ky on July 10, 1955, Dorothy was a graduate of Regis College, in Denver and Thunderbird School of Global Management. She started her career in banking and international finance but found her true passion with US State Department and the foreign service. In a career spanning 26 years, she began her Grand Tour in Mexico City, followed by postings in Chile, Kosovo, Croatia, Bosnia, Argentina and Washington DC. She returned to Mexico City for her final posting where she retired in July 2018. As a member of the senior foreign service, Dorothy received multiple commendations, including presidential awards in 1994, 2000 and 2011. She also received three superior honor awards in 2003, 2006, and 2010 and the distinct honor of achieving a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University, Washington DC in 2008.

Retiring in 2018, she moved to her beautiful blue ranch rambler in Falls Church, VA where she spent time gardening, cooking and acting as precinct captain for her local polling place. As a member of the Arlington Rose Foundation, she developed a passion for roses. Her hobbies include running with her pup, remodeling her house, gardening, swimming, and continuing her lifelong love of painting. She was an accomplished equestrian, a member of the Dalmatian Hash House Harriers, and loved to travel the world with family and friends.

Her sisters find mere words inadequate to express their immense gratitude for the love, care, and endless devotion provided to Dorothy by her "village": Paul, Sylvia, Vivi, Kerry, Patti, Jon, and Aferdita, just to name a few because the list is long. The family also recognizes and thanks her caregivers from ACC Family: Kelly, Phyllis, Tiruwork, and T who provided attentive and tender care for Dorothy in her last days. To all of you mentioned and unmentioned, we thank you!

Memorial parties are planned in both Falls Church, VA and Louisville, KY in the coming months. She will be buried next to her beloved mother at Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, KY.
