With profound sorrow and enduring admiration, we announce the passing of Eduard “Dak” LaFever, whose steadfast spirit and boundless vitality touched the lives of all who knew him. Eduard departed this world on June 25, 2026 in Manassas, Virginia, concluding a brave five-year battle with colorectal cancer at the age of 64.

Born on June 13, 1962, Eduard’s journey through life was marked by quiet strength, sparkling humor, and a unique devotion to the world around him. Known to friends and loved ones as “Dak,” he created a path defined by sincere compassion and undaunted curiosity, qualities that resonated in every corner of his existence.

Eduard’s early passion for the great outdoors carried him across winding trails and down meandering rivers, always in search of nature’s quiet wonders. Canoeing and hiking were his cherished pursuits—activities into which he poured not only his energy but also his soul, finding in wild places the serenity and adventure that so perfectly matched his temperament. The open road called to him as well, and Eduard would answer on his beloved Harley-Davidson, undertaking long rides that became the fabric of cherished memories and lasting friendships. At home, Eduard’s green thumb transformed even the smallest patch of land into a flourishing testament to his patience and delight in nurturing life, while his lens captured fleeting moments in crisp detail, reflecting his appreciation for the unexpected beauty of the world.

Eduard’s love extended especially towards his canine companions: Beebo, Kozmo, and Papeet, the last of whom preceded him in death in 2023. His life with these poodles was one of unwavering affection and genuine camaraderie. To all animals, Eduard offered compassion and kindness, approaching the world’s smallest creatures with a respect that revealed the depth of his character.

In his professional life, Eduard embodied reliability and warmth in each role he undertook. As a Store Manager for Vitamin Shoppe and Potomac Video, he was known equally for his capable leadership and his approachable, easy humor—qualities that brightened the days of colleagues and customers alike.

Above all, Eduard will be remembered for his indomitable sense of humor, a trait that never dimmed, even in the face of adversity. He lifted the spirits of those around him, finding laughter and light in dark times and encouraging others to see the gentle joys life had to offer.

Eduard’s absence will be deeply felt by those nearest to his heart. He is survived by his loving mother, Linda LaFever, whose support and affection were constants throughout his life; his step-brother, Arnold LaFever; his step-sister, Elizabeth LaFever; and Gary F. Legarski, his life partner of nearly 30 years who accompanied Eduard on life’s winding road. Eduard was preceded in death by his beloved step-father, Kelton LaFever.

In honoring Eduard’s legacy, we remember not only a man of courage and perseverance, but also one whose laughter filled rooms, whose compassion uplifted creatures great and small, and whose zest for life inspired everyone fortunate enough to have walked beside him.
