IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth "Liz" Middleton
Marr
July 4, 1963 – February 27, 2026
Visitation
Celebration of Life
Elizabeth “Liz” Middleton Marr, 62, of Washington, DC, was called home to Jesus on February 27, 2026, surrounded by family and cared for with great love at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 6-8p at All Saints Church in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 13, 2026 at 3p at All Saints Church.
Born July 4, 1963, Liz lived with an uncommon gift: she made people feel known. If you met her, she had a way of remembering your name. And if she knew your name, she prayed for you by name, often daily. From her early roots in Summerton, South Carolina, through the cities she loved and the communities she helped knit together, Liz was an anchor. She noticed people. She reached out first. She stayed faithful to friends for decades. After graduating from Clemson University and spending a formative summer at Harvard, she built a life across New York City, Charleston, and Washington, DC, where her quiet ministry only grew.
Liz carried an eight-year battle with cancer with steady faith and quiet courage. Even in immense physical pain, she refused to turn inward. She believed God could use suffering to strengthen others. “This isn’t for me,” she would say. “It’s for others.” Her life preached the Gospel in the most convincing way: through prayer, endurance, and love poured out.
Liz’s deepest joy was her family, and her greatest purpose was pointing people to Jesus and the salvation found in Him. She leaves behind a legacy of faith that multiplied through relationships, hospitality, and thousands of prayers that only heaven can fully count.
Liz is survived by her husband, William Corbin Marr; and by their family, including Carson Marr (Claire), Corbin Marr (Suzanne), Crockett Marr (Joelle), and Laurel Marr Nicholson (Ed); her grandchildren, Siena, Hannah, Samuel, Fitzroy, Theodore, and Winifred; her sister, Glynda Middleton Marcus, and her son, Glynn Marcus; Kay Middleton, the wife of her late brother Doug, and their children, Bonnie, Justin, and Amanda; Charles and Susanne Van Drunen; Roland and Sarah Bokma; Kyle and Erica Bokma; Simon and Abby Bokma; Gertie Bokma; Oliver Bokma; Jesse Bokma; and many dearly loved friends she treated like family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glynn and Mary Middleton, and her brother, Douglas Middleton.
The family is grateful for All Saints Church, St. Philip’s Church, and the Sibley care team, and above all for the Lord Jesus Christ, whose love has carried them in this season.
Please join us for the Visitation and Celebration of Life. And if you have a story about Liz, we would love to hear it so we can help her grandchildren carry it forward.
