Evelyn Marie Andrews was born on June 9, 1934 in Williamsport, PA to Carl and Minnie Georgie Andrews. She was the youngest of the couple's three children, Carl (Bob) Andrews'Jr. and Eleanor Rhoades.

Evelyn graduated from Williamsport High School in 1952 and enrolled the following fall at Howard University in Washington, DC. At the renowned Historically Black University where she majored in mathematics and physics and graduated with honors. Evelyn stayed on at Howard University for her master’s degree and graduated magna cum laude. At Howard, she met an upper-division student, Nelson S. D'Andrea Du Bois, whom she married in August 1957 after completing her masters. The couple moved to Berkeley, California where Nelson had started his PhD at the University of California.

Evelyn began her professional career at the outset of the burgeoning computer age. She worked for a mix of government, academic, and non-profit research organizations.  These availed her of opportunities to participate in and lead teams responsible for designing the programming languages for early IBM mainframes, demonstrating the feasibility of parallel processing, and building the file management system that would become the basis for Microsoft Explorer and similar applications.  Evelyn had her first child Natsuya (né Natasha) in 1969.

In time, the family relocated to New York which marked a new chapter for Evelyn. She had her second child Jacqueline in 1972.  After a brief period attending to her children, she sought out and achieved executive management positions at the National Broadcasting Corporation and later Mobil Oil Corporation. At Mobil, she oversaw office automation in addition to making meaningful contributions to the office culture by unifying training for managers, clarifying performance requirements, promoting star performers, and enhancing the corporate culture by implementing change-management initiatives that enhanced communication between employees of different ranks and across genders.

Evelyn's professional pursuits were punctuated by her commitment to community.  Evelyn volunteered and served on the boards of the YWCA, the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies, and the Scarsdale Family Counseling Service. She also served as president of the League of Women Voters in Greenburgh, NY. Evelyn's altruism was fueled by her quiet faith.  She choose to express her commitment to God by lending her talent for management to the vestry and altar guild ministries at St. James the Less in Scarsdale, NY.  After relocating her family to Vienna, VA in 1990, she served on the altar guild ministry at the Church of the Holy Comforter.

In her spare time, Evelyn loved to golf with the Jefferson Thursday Women's Golf League. Following her husband's passing in 2017, she decided to return to work. She loved her new position with the Virginia Department of Transportation and took a liking to the “young" people whom she felt had adopted her as their favorite auntie.

Evelyn leaves behind her daughter Jacqueline (Jacqui), her niece Antoinette (Toni) Proctor, her sister-in-law Jeanette Andrews, and Jeanette and Carl Jr.'s children Carl, Cheryl, and Keith.
