Frances Mary (Walsh) Black
March 22, 1943 to October 7, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing our mother, Frances Mary Black, on October 7, at age 81.
Fran was born in Queens, NY to Mary (formerly Donahue) and Francis Walsh. She attended St. Pascal’s Baylon Elementary & High Schools in Queens. She received nursing training in Manhattan at The Foundling Hospital and at New York University Hospital.
In 1966, she married Vincent Black, with whom she had three children.
Fran worked as a registered nurse in a variety of hospitals and as a public health nurse while raising her children in New Jersey.
In 1996 she received her Masters in Nursing from Marymount University in Arlington, VA. Fran worked as a Nurse Practitioner at the World Bank in Washington, DC and in family practices in northern Virginia.
In 2011 Fran walked with her son, on El Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain. She traveled to Lourdes, France and Međugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina as a medical support volunteer to the Wounded Warriors from 2007 to 2011, and volunteered with the Catholic Church as a Eucharistic minister.
She is survived in life by her two daughters, Maureen Tesoro (Mark) and Susan DeMovick (Harvey); her son Sean Black (Kim); and her grandchildren: Caroline, Harvey, Reagan, Daphne, and Emerson; her sister, Mary Walsh, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wounded Warriors or Sisters for Life.
