In Loving Memory of Gene Edwin Roach
Gene Edwin Roach, aged 86, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on January 3, 1939, in rural Ohio, Gene spent his early years there before living in Kalamazoo, Michigan; Atlantic City, New Jersey; and eventually retiring in Leesburg, Virginia, close to those he held dear.
Gene will be fondly remembered for his unwavering kindness, gentle demeanor, quiet patience, and warm sense of humor. A true gentleman in every sense, he left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Gene was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Detroit Red Wings. His passion for NASCAR—especially his admiration for Jeff Gordon—was unmatched. He also had a deep love for classical music, vintage trains, silent and black-and-white films, a good cigar or pipe, an ice-cold beer, and the relaxed charm of Tommy Bahama. He cherished the art of handwritten letters and kept the tradition alive throughout his life. Gene’s love of travel took him across the United States and Europe with friends and family. Among his most treasured adventures were visiting Mozart’s birthplace in Salzburg, attending an epic race at Talladega, cruising through Alaska, and making countless joyful trips to the Florida Keys.
Above all, Gene was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his son, David Rammage; his daughters and sons-in-law, Danielle and Matt Yates, and Sandy and Davie Froeschner. He leaves behind seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Sean Rammage, Jason Rammage, Luke Yates, Madison Yates, Gracie Hodges, Cameron Yates, Alyda Froeschner, and Selena Rammage-Muñoz. He also held a special place in his heart for his goddaughter, Tasha Schwartz.
Gene’s memory will be cherished forever by his family and friends, whose lives were enriched by his presence. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please share a favorite memory in the guestbook.
