December 21, 1951 — March 20, 2025

McLean, Virginia

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Glenn M. Schatell, who died peacefully on March 20, 2025. Glenn was born in New Jersey on December 21, 1951. He was known for his intellect, passion to learn, humor, love of history and rock and roll. Despite battling a serious mental illness, he lived with purpose and compassion. Glenn organized a large tenant association in Manhattan in the 1980s, saving an entire city block of tenements from being demolished. He worked in the insurance field for 30 years and obtained an MBA while working full time. He lobbied Congress for legislation advocating for individuals with mental illness. Glenn honored his father's legacy by donating a collection of his artwork to the Library of Congress Veterans History Project Collection and University of Minnesota Libraries Sherlock Holmes Collection, and in 2013 published a book of his father's Sherlock Holmes cartoons. Glenn deeply cherished his family. He is survived by his daughter Elena, wife Gail and sister Amy.
