Gregory Hagan Clough

Gregory Hagan Clough, 53, of Arlington, Virginia passed peacefully on July 1, 2024 surrounded by his family. Born in Washington, DC, Greg grew up in McLean and attended St. John's the Beloved Catholic School, Longfellow Middle School and graduated from McLean High School in 1988.
Greg excelled in athletics including golf, baseball, swimming and lacrosse. He held swimming records at Chesterbrook Swim & Tennis Club for more than 20 years. Greg graduated from Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Md., class of 1992, where he played lacrosse and earned a B.S. in Business. He continued his professional development by completing numerous financial planning designations at Virginia Commonwealth University.
A successful entrepreneur, Greg was founder and principal of the Chain Bridge Financial Group, which he grew and led for nearly 18 years. He put a strong emphasis on the importance of building enduring relationships. Prior to Chain Bridge, he was a financial consultant for seven years at Northwestern Mutual and spent four years at John Hancock.
Greg was actively engaged in the Arlington community and was a member of the Optimist Club of Arlington, where he held several leadership positions and managed major fundraising operations. Greg was a long-time member of Washington Golf and Country Club, where he served as a board member and worked tirelessly on his golf game. Greg also participated in the First Tee program, teaching young golfers the game. He enjoyed travel and all manner of sports and cultural events in Washington, DC.
Greg's devotion to his family was evident through his commitment to his wife, Renee (Egan) for 29 years. They were blessed with two beautiful children, William (Will) and Ella.
Greg is also survived by his mother Jean Clough and five siblings and their spouses: J. Christopher "Chris" (Lisa), Michael "Mike" (Nancy), F. Andrew "Andy" (Kathy), Robert "Bob" (Jeanine) and sister Jean Marie (Gordon); and a large extended family that includes numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Clough. Greg was a friend to everyone and loved by all.

A private Mass will be celebrated by the family. A Celebration of Life will be held for all family and friends on Tuesday, July 9, 1pm at Washington Golf and Country Club in Arlington. In his honor the American flag at WGCC will be flown at half-mast Sunday, July 6-Tuesday, July 9.
