Dear Friends,
With open, broken heart, we write to you.
As some of you may already know, Haskell (Hal) Small passed away on June 1st, 2024, after spending three weeks in the ICU addressing complications from multiple surgeries related to pancreatic cancer. The removal of the cancer was successful, but he ultimately lost his battle with hospital-acquired pneumonia.
He was buried in Columbia Gardens, an arboretum cemetery, on June 5th, 2024, the day he had been scheduled to perform at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall playing Beethoven’s monumental Diabelli Variations. Learning this piece was a formidable undertaking that had motivated his rehabilitation from a stroke in 2021 which rendered his left side paralyzed for months. He was laid to rest with a copy of the score, adorned with flowers and surrounded by loved ones.
We invite you to join us in celebration of Haskell’s life on Saturday, September 14th, 2024, at 1pm. Refreshments will be served. We look forward to sharing memories together.
