Hiep Van Nguyen, born March 1, 1949 in Phan Thiet, Vietnam, passed away on September 23, 2026.

He will be remembered as a simple and selfless man. He loved his family deeply, and he also took joy in his work, good food, and visits to Disney World. A devout Catholic, he carried his faith through the Vietnam War, his journey to the United States, and the many chapters of his life. Even after years of battling kidney disease, he remained carefree and cheerful, meeting life with optimism.

Hiep was a lifelong learner. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University and later completed an MBA at The University of Dallas at the young age of 58. He went on to serve as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for 19 years, a role he approached with genuine passion and dedication. He loved what he did, and that enthusiasm was part of the steady way he moved through the world. He also loved to learn and practice French, reflecting his curiosity for continued growth.

Above all, Hiep treasured his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Xuanlan Nguyen, and their three children, Diane Nguyen, Carolyn Nguyen, and Brian Nguyen. The family he built and cherished was at the center of his life, and his love for them will remain a lasting memory.

Funeral services will be held at Unity of Fairfax, 2854 Hunter Mill Rd, Oakton, VA 22124, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows: Catholic Service led by Father Barnes from the Cathedral of St. Thomas More from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. (optional for visitors); and Visitation from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The burial will be determined on a later date.
