James Robert Aceto Jr., 78, of Alexandria, Virginia, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, in Burke, Virginia. He was born on January 27, 1948, in Washington, D.C.

James proudly served in the United States Army with the Army Corps of Engineers, including assignments in Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. Following his military service, he continued his dedication to his country through a career in civil service with the Department of Defense until his retirement.

James’ deep love and commitment to family and community were reflected in the way he opened his heart and home to foster children and exchange students from around the world. He especially cherished the holidays, when family and friends gathered to celebrate.

James is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathy M. Aceto; his daughter, Jessica M. Aceto, his granddaughters, Ariana, and Dania; his foster son, Jon Dixon, his grandchildren, Beau, Austin, and Tiffany; his foster son, De Shazo, his grandchildren, Alyssa, De Shazo Jr., Katie, Haley, and Sam; his sister, Sharon Younker; and several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James R. Aceto Sr. and D. Elaine Aceto; his sister, Janice R. Freeman; and his half-brother, James R. A. Aceto.

He leaves behind a lasting legacy of devotion to his family and service to his country.

Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
