Dr. James (Jim) Fitchett Jr. (1942-2026), 83 of Chatham, MA and Orlando, FL passed away surrounded by his family on January 31st after a short illness.
Jim was born in Boston, MA and grew up in the Boston suburb of Arlington. He attended Boston College High School and upon graduation attended Boston College.
Jim earned a Masters degree in Pharmacology from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. He then earned his Doctorate in Medical Dentistry from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA. Jim began his practice in dental geriatrics and later dedicated his career to dental related research at Harvard University, including projects exploring cancer markers and cleft palate.
Jim met his wife Diana in Chatham on Cape Cod during a summer vacation after high school. They were later married in June, 1967. They raised their family of four children in Chatham on Cape Cod and relocated to Orlando Florida in the late 1990s.
In retirement, Jim and Diana enjoyed leisurely walks and dinners around Epcot Center, exploring the Disney parks with their grandchildren on family visits and exploring museums and galleries with family and friends.
Jim was a lifelong dog lover and enjoyed walks on the beach with his goldens, and he was an enthusiastic supporter of Boston's sports teams (Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins) and enjoyed cheering them on with his grandchildren on trips to Boston or comfortably at home.
He is survived by his children (Gabrielle Akimova, Christian Fitchett, Brendan Fitchett, Trevor Fitchett) and his six grandsons (Petya Akimov, Misha Akimov, Kian Fitchett, Rory Fitchett, Caydan Fitchett and Matthew Fitchett and was preceded in death by his wife Diana Fitchett and his parents Jim and Ita Fitchett.
A memorial service will be held in Chatham later in the year for family and close friends.
