James Edward Palmer (Jim), age 79, of Gainesville, VA, passed away on April 7, 2026. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Jim's humor and fun loving nature touched everyone who knew him.
Jim was born on November 26, 1946 in Ft. Pierce, Florida. He was the eldest of 4 sons to the late Bill and Susan Palmer. The family moved to Fairfax, Virginia after his high school graduation where he attended George Mason University and was a founder of Delta Tau Sigma fraternity. In 1967, he married the love of his live, Francie and enlisted in the Air Force. After proudly serving his country (reaching the rank of Sergeant), Jim began a successful career in sales and become known as "peddler". Jim never met a stranger and his ability to relate to people from all walks of life made him a natural salesman and a friend to many.
Jim lived the motto "work hard, play harder". He cherished life's adventures and his "toys" - cars/trucks, dirt bikes/motorcycles, golf carts, tractors, RV's, ATV's - anything with a motor. Jim loved the outdoors and spending time at the "Mountain House" in central Virginia, where family and friends have gathered for more than 45 years. Jim was a generous man in giving his time and talent - you could count on him for anything. He was GENIAL!
Jim was most proud of his close and loving family. He was affectionately known as "Grim" to his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Francie Palmer, daughters Nathalie Palmer (Scott Palmer) and Kim Palmer (Steve Embrey), grandchildren Samantha Bradley, Gordon Bradley, Rachel Palmer and Nicole Palmer, and brothers Steve Palmer, Doug Palmer and John Palmer.
Jim Palmer touched many lives and made the world a better place. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the honor to know and love him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF).
