IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jamillia Cafe
Norris Hansford
November 19, 1991 – January 19, 2026
Jamillia Cafe Norris Hansford, age 34, was born on November 19, 1991, in Washington, DC. Jamillia entered the world with a bold spirit and left it the same way—unapologetically herself.
She was the beloved daughter of Davette Hansford and Charles Higgins, both of whom preceded her in death. From an early age, Jamillia displayed a strong will and independent nature while attending Barnard Elementary School, MacFarland Middle School, and later Ballou High School.
A true free spirit, Jamillia lived life on her own terms. She found joy in listening to a variety of music including 90s R&B and early to mid 2000’s music, relaxing with coloring, and following wherever her heart led her. Outspoken, rebellious, adventurous, and outgoing, Jamillia had a presence that could not be ignored. She loved to party, laugh freely, and spend time with friends, creating memories that will live on through the stories shared by those who knew her best.
Jamillia deeply valued connection and loyalty. She loved keeping in touch with her childhood friends and took pride in maintaining those bonds over the years. She also remained close with her favorite teacher from Barnard Elementary School, Ms. Donna Bynum-Richardson, whom Jamillia grew to love as family and held dear to her heart.
Above all, Jamillia had an unconditional love for her children, Ashawen Bethea and Eden Hansford. Her love for them was constant, deep, and unwavering, and it remained one of the most meaningful parts of her life. She was also supported by Yvette Rucker, a cherished mother figure who lovingly cared for Jamillia’s son and held a special place in her heart.
Jamillia is survived by her loving siblings Azeemah Appling and Iman Hansford, and by Crystal Coleman, whom Jamillia considered a sister. She is also survived by her grandmother Margie Jones , a host of extended family members, childhood friends, and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her brother Harlan Hansford and her grandfather David Hansford.
Jamillia will be remembered for her fearless personality, being outspoken, her laughter, and her refusal to dim her light for anyone. Though her time here was far too short, her spirit leaves a lasting impression on all who were blessed to know and love her.
