IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane Vintinner
Duke
April 23, 1942 – November 14, 2025
Jane Vintinner Duke, born on April 23, 1942, in Littleton, New Hampshire, departed from this world peacefully in her sleep on November 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, intelligence, and boundless love. She journeyed through life with an unwavering spirit, embracing her passions and imparting wisdom to those fortunate enough to cross her path.
Jane was a versatile soul whose talents knew no bounds. As the owner of her own real estate firm, she navigated the complexities of properties and transactions with the same grace she exhibited when teaching piano and music theory to young learners. Her students flourished under her guidance, as she believed in nurturing creativity and encouraging a joyous approach to life—often reminding them, "Try to say yes more than no. It is the easiest way to make someone happy."
She earned a Bachelor's degree in French from the esteemed Duke University, where she also cherished her involvement in the choral program. These experiences enriched her life and cultivated her love for music, which she seamlessly wove into her interactions with others. Notably, it was not just the formal education that shaped her character but her adventures on life's "off the beaten path journey," raising an eclectic array of animals including sheep, ducks, geese, rabbits, peacocks, and more, all while being a devoted single mother to her beloved daughter, Serena L. Benson.
Jane’s nurturing spirit extended beyond the realm of her immediate pursuits; she was a gentle giant and a loyal friend. Her home, infused with the vibrant blooms of her carefully tended gardens and the delightful chaos of her pets—including her dog Cassie, two beloved cats, Sherman and Itty Bitty Crazy Kitty, and her rabbit, Edelweiss—was a testament to her zest for life. A fervent reader, she was often lost in the pages of numerous books, indulging in her imaginative world. Christmas held a special place in her heart, celebrated with the fervor that made every year magical for those around her.
Although she may not have trumpeted her achievements out loud, her proudest accomplishments echoed in the lives she touched, particularly as a music educator. The foundational stitches she sewed into the fabric of her students' lives continue to resonate, a testament to her enduring influence.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved partner, Lonnie Washington, and her parents, Louise and Charles Vintinner. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on through her daughter Serena and her cherished four-legged companions, who were as much a part of her life as the musical notes she taught others to play.
As we reflect on Jane’s remarkable journey, we are reminded of her gentle demeanor, powerful presence, and profound capacity to care. She marched to the beat of her own drum, leaving a profound impact on all who had the privilege to know her. In our memories of her, she remains an embodiment of creativity and love, celebrated not only for her achievements but for the essence of who she was—truly, the heart of her family.
