Joan
Nancoz
Nov 11, 1938 — Jun 7, 2026
Annandale, Virginia
Joan Nancoz died surrounded by her family at INOVA Fairfax Hospital on June 7, 2026.
She is survived by her sister Lucy Rose (Bill) of Citrus County, Florida, brother Al (Joan) Szklany of Naperville, Illinois, Amanda (niece) and Lisa Reeves, of Alexandria, VA, cousin Jean DiGrandi of New York and cousin Rosemary Dericco of New York and daughter Karen and one granddaughter.
She leaves behind many friends made over the years at New Horizons Independent Living in Marlborough, MA where she participated in all the activities offered, especially Trivia Pursuit.
Her hobbies over the years were knitting, crocheting, painting and gardening.
Joan was very proud of her immigrant grandparents: Walanty and Anelia Szklany on her father Albin's side and Eustasio and Rose Derrico on her mother Lucy's side. She loved visiting her grandparents in Yonkers, New York as a child.
Joan was a devout Catholic who was so proud to be a Church Deacon - a position she took very seriously. She also taught Bible class for many years.
While working full time and raising her daughter, Joan earned her degree from Pace University by going to night classes for 18 years. What an accomplishment and example to her daughter and granddaughter.
Joan was a generous and loving mother who was a scout leader for many years. She had many scout camping trips to talk about.
Joan and her deceased husband, Roger, (July 5, 2005) enjoyed traveling the world. As soon as they got back from one trip they started planning the next one. There were only a few countries they didn't get to visit.
A celebration of life will be celebrated at a later date in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in New York.
