Joann Gentry, born Miller, on July 23, 1947, in the quaint town of Luray, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, in Winchester, Virginia. Joann was a cherished wife, mother, mother-in-law, step-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who lived a beautiful life. Joann always found joy in the simple things and always saw the good in everyone. When she entered the room a ray of sunshine closely followed, bringing warmth and love to all who had the pleasure of meeting her.
As the beloved daughter of her parents William “Bud” Emanuel Miller & Elsie Irene Sours Miller. Joann grew into a beautiful woman known for her warmth and kindness. She found her true love when she met Eugene “Gene” P. Gentry Sr.,They married on October 24, 1974 and together, they built a relationship filled with love, laughter and wonderful memories. Joann was filled with gratitude for the life they had, she loved the music they shared, especially singing hymns, and old country songs. She always talked about how she missed it after Gene’s passing.
Joann’s love for music and dancing was undeniable. When she heard music she couldn’t sit still. She had a knack for interior decorating and was a wonderful seamstress. She was happiest traveling with her family, or her best friend Betty Pilkington, whom she shared many treasured memories with. Or you could find her in her favorite spot just curled up under a blanket watching a movie with her popcorn & candy.
Joann's legacy lives on through her loving family. She is survived by her wonderful daughters, Terri Montgomery (Joey), who has passed on. Stacey Hough (Mickey) and Keisha Logan (Daniel). Joann loved her girls and was very proud of the women that they had become, always bragging how special they were to her.
The light of Joann's life shone brightest through her grandchildren: Nick (Kandace), Lindsay, Ashlyn, Taileigh, Tanner, Zander, Sage(Kaden), Kami, Zoey, Timber, Delaney, Delilah, and Delcie. Each one carries a piece of her heart, and they will forever treasure the moments they spent with their sweet grandma. In addition to her grandchildren, Joann was a proud great-grandmother to Noah, Penelope, Owen, Presleigh, and Miller Mae, who brought her immeasurable joy and happiness in her later years.
In addition to her biological children & grandchildren, Joann was also blessed with 3 daughters and a son through her marriage to Gene. Lynn Fees (Fred), Denise Delozier (Donnie), Eugene “Phillip” Gentry Jr.(Rebecca) and GG (Aaron). With their beautiful children and grandchildren, whom she loved very much. Along with many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, and their children.
Joann is survived by her loving brothers Jeffery Miller (Patsy) and Craig Miller, her half brothers Mark Miller, Timothy Miller and Christopher Miller, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her sweet sister, Loretta Joyce Goode.
Joann Gentry will be remembered for her unwavering strength, captivating smile, and the unconditional love she always gave to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of beautiful memories, a testament to the impact she had on each person lucky enough to know her. As her family gathers in remembrance, they will celebrate the remarkable life she lived, filled with affection, and the love she shared which will continue to unite them beyond her passing.
