John Dermott Aimone, Sr. of Washington, DC died peacefully in his Glover Park home on Saturday, July 27, 2024. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alis Lavelle Aimone. John was born August 2, 1937 in Franklin, Massachusetts and moved to Washington, DC in 1960. He taught in the DC Public Schools for 30 years, most of that time at Malcolm X Elementary School as a science and math teacher. He leaves his son, John D. Aimone, Jr. (Jack), daughter, Mara Lavelle Glenshaw; son-in-law Paul Glenshaw; grandchildren Timothy and Lucy Glenshaw; his sister Linda Donovan and his sister-in-law Jean M. Aimone both of Plymouth, Massachusetts; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul and Wilma Pinkney of Ransomville, New York. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Henry Aimone, Jr., sister, Rose Marie Murphy, and brothers-in-law James M. Donovan, Jr. and Francis X. Murphy. He will be remembered with joy for his annual clam chowder parties, Thursday night basketball group at Jelleff Community Center, love of all things ridiculous, irrepressible humor, and unfailing charm. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Holy Trinity Church, 3513 N Street, NW, Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation (www.parkinson.org).
