A much loved husband, father, and grandfather, John Edward Kilcarr, passed away peacefully at his home in Aldie, Virginia, on November 8, 2024. He was surrounded by immediate family (and his beloved Great Pyrenees dog, Lihue). He is survived by Marie, his wife of 58 years; his three children, Sean, Michael, and Dorothy; his daughter-in-law, Mary; and his three grandchildren, Maeve, Molly and Mary Riley. He was pre-deceased by his father Patrick (who died when John was 10), his mother, Mary, and his two older brothers Andrew and Paul.
John – always called Jack – was born July 5, 1933, in New York City, NY, grew up in the Bronx, NY attended Manhattan College and proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Captain. Afterwards, he relocated to Virginia, in the footsteps of his brother Andrew, and attended American University's Law School. After passing the bar exam, he became an Assistant Arlington County prosecutor and followed that by opening his own law practice on Wilson Boulevard concentrating on criminal and civil defense cases, which he loved doing for over 30 years.
Aside for his deep passion for the practice of law and the give-and-take of courtroom debate, his "Irish" kinetic energy was turned to action in golf, skiing, and travel. He loved his friends dearly and shared many hours with them in Canaan Valley, West Virginia.
A grave side service will be held on December 3, 2024, at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Arlington County Bar Association at www.arlingtonbar.org or Friends of Homeless Animals www.FOHA.org.
