John Wesley Reed Jr., 71, of Alexandria, VA, passed away in the comfort of his home Thursday, June 25, 2026.

John is the son of the late Rev. J.W. Reed Sr. and the late Mrs. Annie Belle Leak-Reed of Winston-Salem, N.C. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vivian.

John received his Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Winston Salem State University. He received his Master of Arts degree in arts administration from Howard University, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. In addition, he also received a Bachelor of Arts degree from New England College.

John was a gifted and talented musician; starting in childhood, he accompanied his church choir. He followed that calling for over 40 years managing and directing several church choirs in the DC/Virginia area.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date this year.
