Johnny Lewis Wright was born on October 6, 1952 to Bessie Parker-Wright and Willie Wright, Sr in Sanford, Florida. He was one of ten children born to them- 6 boys and 4 girls. From a very young age, he was strong willed and passionate about his interests and desires. As a child, he could easily be described as mischievous. He graduated from Crooms High School in 1970. He moved to Washington, DC within a year to start his adult life. He soon met and married Jacqueline Patricia Scott on October 9, 1972. As a result of their union, they had Nicole Denise and Johnny Lewis Wright, Jr. He worked various jobs during his early years in the city from hotel concierge to building engineer in schools and government offices. He was drafted into the army in 1971 and served in Germany. Wherever he ventured, he often had an interesting turn of phrase that would bring a smile to everyone's face. He has lived in Washington, DC in SE and NW for the entirety of his adult years. He did return to his hometown for a few years before returning to Washington, DC. He was divorced from Jacqueline Wright in July 1999. He has made many friends that have kept him company throughout the years. He dedicated his senior years to volunteerism at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center's Transportation Team. He dedicated over 10,000 hours to that endeavor and earned a prestigious award. He was also a lifelong learner. He has taken many computer literacy courses as well as participated in a program at UDC (University of the District of Columbia) focused on health and nutrition, community program access, etc. He enjoyed puzzles, watching sports (baseball, football and basketball), watching game shows, court dramas and sermons. He was proceeded in death by his mother and father, his only son, two brothers- David and Glenn, nephew- Michael Jackson, and his ex wife. He survived war times, alcoholism, grief, and COVID, but succumbed to a long journey with cancer. He never remarried, but was in a committed relationship with Nancy Williams. He left behind one daughter Nicole Wright-Guise (Lynwood Guise) and 4 grandchildren- Jelani, Jahi, Zora and Johnny Guise, and a granddaughter from his son- Jaushai Henry; siblings Willie Wright, Jr, Tyrone Wright (Pat Cooper), Paul Wright (Alberta Wright), Margaret Wynn (Joseph Wynn), Belinda Jackson (Frank Jackson), Alma Redding (Robert Redding), Sherri Evans (Isaiah Evans). He has nephews and nieces that will miss his big spirit: Willie Wright, III, Matthew Wright, William Ward, III,  Isaiah Evans, III, Shenna Wright, Tina Holland, Tammi Dyer, Cee Wright, Che Wright, Nakia Wright, Ariel Wright, Cammy Campbell, Nikhail Slaughter, Glenda Wright, Glennis Wright and Taylor Evans. There were numerous friends that can not all be mentioned here. But, he had one friend that was a consistent presence- Tyrone, companion, classmate, and riding partner. My father, your sibling, grandfather, uncle, friend, and partner will be greatly missed.
