It is with great sorrow we write of the death of Joseph Stephen Lutz of Vienna, VA on December 24, 2025. Joseph passed away peacefully and well cared for at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia after a courageous battle with ALS. He left us far too soon at 59 years of age. Born in Elizabeth, NJ on October 12, 1966 to Joseph and Marie (Raffo) Lutz , Joseph was the oldest of three children and grew up in Maryland and Exeter, NH. He was gifted athletically and enjoyed playing football, basketball, baseball and golf. Growing up, much of his spare time was occupied playing basketball at Exeter High School or just shooting hoops with friends. He also enjoyed eventually coaching youth soccer and basketball. Joseph exercised diligently and was filmed in a video for the Watergate 600 a fitness club in Washington, DC. True to his competitive spirit, Joseph delighted in attending games for all of Washington’s local teams, including the Nationals, Wizards and Commanders. An unwavering fan, he particularly treasured time with family and friends rooting for the Commanders at home and away games. Joseph was a gifted speaker. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire, he began his career in Boston in the field of sales and marketing. After his time in Boston, Joseph moved to Maryland where he wed and fathered two daughters, Lindsey and Haley. After decades in corporate sales, including work with the U.S. military, Joseph started his own consulting firm, H&L International.
