Judith Fowler Davidson, born Judith Elliott Fowler, passed away at her home in Arlington on May 24, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her final wish was to live to the age of 93, and in a fitting testament to her remarkable strength of mind and spirit, she passed away on her 93rd birthday. In the final days of her journey here on earth, all twenty-seven of her descendants, along with extended family and friends, visited to express their love, gratitude, and appreciation for the remarkable woman who had profoundly shaped their lives by teaching them that nothing is more important than family. Judith’s greatest legacy to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren is the boundless way she expressed love. There seemed to be no limit to her generosity, warmth, and capacity to care for those around her. She could effortlessly feed a gathering of any size and somehow remain calm in the very eye of the storm, creating a home where everyone felt welcomed, nourished, and deeply loved.
Judith was born and raised in Mount Vernon, New York and spent idyllic summers at her family’s nearby retreat, Bonnie Brae, in Mountainville. She graduated from A.B. Davis High School and attended Cornell University, where she met her beloved first husband, Howard Dutton, then a student at Cornell Law School. Together they built a rich and vibrant life, raising five children while making homes in Virginia, California, New York, and Maryland. After Howard’s death, Judith found love again with Herbert Davidson. Together they shared happy years in Arlington and Boca Raton, along with many memorable travels throughout Europe and North and South America.
Judith loved the outdoors and found great joy in activities such as gardening, hiking through national parks, taking long walks through her neighborhood, or delighting in a snowstorm. There were few things Judith loved more than Bethany Beach, a place that perfectly united her love of the outdoors with her joy in bringing family together. She found equal satisfaction in the quiet and highly skilled work of her hands. She was an accomplished artist, knitter and needlepointer. As just one expression of her great love for her family, Judith created twelve beautifully crafted Christmas stockings — one for each of her twelve great-grandchildren — treasures that will be cherished by future generations.
Judith was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard B.Dutton; her second husband, Herbert D. Davidson; and her sister Joyce Fowler. She is survived by her brother Wallace Fowler (Ruth); five children, Robert Dutton (Sara), Heather Dudley(Tim), Paul Dutton (Hilary), Holly Muldoon, and Kimberly Dutton; her five grandchildren, Thomas Sanders (Megan), Austin Sanders (Sarah), Lindsay Quinn (Jeff), Courtney O’Malley (Patrick), and Michael Muldoon (Lilli); and twelve great-grandchildren, Adelaide, Leo, Wallace, Evelyn, Cecilia, Julianne, Luke Patton, Connor, Millie, Ella, Miles, and Delilah; two stepchildren, Susan Simpson (Glenn) and Kim Davidson-Rogers (Bruce); two step grandchildren Daniel Simpson (Megan) and Katie Simpson; and one step greatgrandchild, Liam
