Occoquan, Virginia - Dr. Karen Elizabeth Beliles, M.D. passed away at the age of 67 on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, VA.
With expertise in both psychiatry and neurology, Karen was an American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABMS) certified Psychiatrist for 37 years, and practiced in Northern Virginia at her passing. Dr. Beliles was dedicated to delivering patient-centered care with empathy and respect. Through her holistic approach and comprehensive multidisciplinary care, she helped patients achieve mental wellness and improve their quality of life.
Karen was a bachelor of science graduate from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and subsequently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 1989. Dr. Beliles authored and contributed to several published scientific / medical papers which have been cited in numerous other papers. Early in her medical career, Karen held licensed practices in Charleston, SC, (MUSC residency), Nashville, TN (Vanderbilt University School of Medicine), Atlanta, GA (Emory Hospital) and served on the University of Nebraska liver transplant team.
Karen was the daughter of Robert Beliles, PH.D and Eloise M. Beliles, talented artist, and grew up in a suburb of Milwaukee, WI and later in Oakton, VA. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Bob) Beliles, Jr. of Hilton Head Island, SC. and cherished friends and colleagues. Karen had a love for art, music, and possessed a keen intellect which contributed to her dry sense of humor, particularly for surreal and self-related meta-humor.
Her ashes will be spread during a private family celebration of life.
