Karen Joyce Garland

Karen Joyce Garland (Stecher), age 88, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on May 26, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan.

Karen devoted her life to caring for others, both in her profession and in her home. She worked as a dedicated nurse in a Detroit hospital and later continued her compassionate service in a nursing home, touching many lives with her warmth and kindness.

In December 1960, Karen met the love of her life, Larry, on a blind date—a meeting that blossomed into a lifelong partnership. They were married on September 15, 1962, and built a life centered on love, family, and shared adventures. Together, Karen and Larry enjoyed traveling, camping, and spending time with loved ones. She cherished visits to the beach, where she found joy in collecting seashells and appreciating the beauty of nature.

Karen’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Diane Chapman and Keith (Danel) Garland; her grandchildren, Krista (Adrian) Guerrero, Dillon (Kim) McLean, Whitney (Joseph) Hancock, and Dominick (Francesca) Dolane; and her great-grandchildren, Damian, Sophia, Victoria, Liam, Xavier, and Giavanna. She is also survived by her nephew, Sam Stetcher.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Garland; her parents, Samuel and Eileen Stetcher; her brothers, Robert and Ron Stetcher; her son-in-law, Oscar Chapman; and her grandson, Brandon Docuson.

Karen will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and the care and compassion she extended to everyone she met. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
