Larry Juul Obituary
It is with broken hearts that we share the loss of our beloved husband and father, Larry C. Juul, 82, of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Larry passed away after a brief, but valiant, battle with cancer.
Larry was born in January 1944, in Omaha, Nebraska. He visited his home state at every opportunity over the course of his life. Larry was raised by his adoptive parents, Herluf and Olga Juul alongside his sister, Jane, in his hometown, where he attended school up through his graduation at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, in 1966. He cherished a 60+ year friendship with his Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity brothers. He was a veteran who, after serving his country overseas, moved to Virginia to work for the federal government. He and Jonell Dunn (deceased) married in 1967 and their daughter Jennifer arrived in 1970. In 1982, Larry and Karen joined their lives and together they welcomed daughter Stefanie in 1987.
Larry retired after 38 years with the Defense Logistics Agency in 2004, and dove headfirst into anything and everything that caught his interest. He was an inquisitive, thoughtful person who loved travel, particularly to the beautiful State Parks in Virginia, where he partook in hiking, canoeing, fishing, and photographing the wildlife and scenery. Over the years, his many hobbies included reading, bowling, gardening with Karen, archery, martial arts, and enjoying the arts, whether his children were in the performance or not.
Larry is survived by his wife Karen; his two daughters, Jennifer Thomas (Jonathan) and Stefanie Juul; and sister Jane Frazier (Douglas). Fifteen years ago, Larry reconnected with his biological mother, Mardelle Buckendahl, and met his siblings Marcia, Mary, Valerie, Scott, Shari, and Russell, who welcomed him with open arms. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Marcia and Russell.
In keeping with Larry’s wishes, there will not be a public service, and the family will arrange private gatherings to celebrate the man whose life enhanced so many. Funerary services are provided by Carewell Cremations on March 3rd, 2026. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Lung Association. Please contact daughter Jennifer at jenjuul@yahoo.com for more information, including contact information and upcoming events.
