Laura Sporcic Wong, 48, joined the angels in the stars above when she passed away peacefully at home holding hands with her son and husband, while both of her parents were also present on June 3, 2026. Unable to secure a life-saving lung transplant after being turned down by over 20+ transplant centers, Laura succumbed to complications from several lung infections and underlying non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis lung disease. Last July, doctors gave her three to six months to live and she almost made it to a year - Laura was a fighter.

Laura was born on December 7, 1977 in Pennsylvania and moved around as a young child. Her family settled in Rhode Island, where she fell in love with seafood and the beach. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island and then worked at Brown University in support of Women's Issues - to include the prevention of sex trafficking. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Laura answered the call to defend the nation and moved to Washington, D.C. where she joined the Defense Intelligence Agency's Joint Intelligence Task Force for Combating Terrorism. Her laser focus, attention to details, and dedication to the counterterrorism mission contributed to the production of critical national security intelligence that supported policymakers in the Pentagon, White House, and operational forces on the battlefield. While moving up through the analytical ranks, Laura also served in the National Counterterrorism Center and later on became the Senior Defense Intelligence Agency Representative. Eventually, Laura transitioned to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence where she led efforts to ensure analytical integrity across the entire Intelligence Community. Unfortunately, Laura's lung disease progressed where she was unable to go to work anymore. Retiring after a 22-year career, Laura was known for her sharp mind and quick wit, but more importantly for her kindness and empathetic leadership style, which touched many souls across the Intelligence Community.

While Laura was committed to the National Security mission and in spite of all of the accolades and awards, her greatest accomplishment was being a mother. "Nothing competes with the womb" - as Laura would often say with a smile. Raising her son fed her soul on a daily basis, and she helped him grow with curiosity, integrity, and kindness - an everlasting reflection of her own soul. Laura is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, David, and son Kai from Sterling, Virginia, and her parents, Liza and Joe Sporcic from Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania. In her loving memory, a foundation will be created to help others fight advanced lung disease.
